Bagels and New York go together like coffee and mornings. And when you’re in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, you’re in one of the best neighborhoods to grab a seriously good bagel.
I’ve lived in NYC for years now, and trust me when I say Williamsburg has some of the best spots when it comes to that perfect bagel. Here are my absolute favorite spots to grab a bagel when I’m in the area!
1. Bagelsmith
Address: 189 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Website: bagelsmithnyc.com
Bagelsmith is a Williamsburg institution. It’s been around since the 1980s, and it’s exactly what you want from a classic, no-frills bagel shop. The bagels are perfectly dense with just the right amount of chew, and they offer a crazy variety of spreads. This was my go-to spot for when I lived in the area and I always went for an everything bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese — yum!
2. Frankel’s Delicatessen & Appetizing
Address: 631 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222 (just on the Williamsburg/Greenpoint border)
Website: frankelsdelicatessen.com
Frankel’s is technically on the edge of Williamsburg and Greenpoint, but it’s way too good not to include. If you’re craving a next-level bagel sandwich, this is your place. Their lox and scallion cream cheese bagel is a dream — the salmon is silky and the bagels are made fresh daily.
3. Baker’s Dozen
Address: 788 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
Website: bakersdozenbagelsbrooklyn.com
Another Greenpoint/Williamsburg classic, Baker’s Dozen has some of the fluffiest bagels I’ve ever had. They’re a little bigger and softer than some of the more traditional spots, but if you love a hearty bagel, you’ll be obsessed. Bonus: they have a ton of tofu spreads for my vegan friends!
4. Black Seed Bagels
Address: 214 Berry St, Brooklyn, NY 11249
Website: blackseedbagels.com
Black Seed does Montreal-style bagels, which are a little smaller, a little sweeter, and wood-fired. They’re not as dense as traditional New York bagels, but they’re insanely flavorful. Their “The Club” sandwich — packed with turkey, bacon, tomato, and garlic mayo — is absolutely worth the hype.
5. Edith’s Eatery & Grocery
Address: 312 Leonard St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Website: edithsbk.com
Edith’s is technically a full-service Jewish deli and eatery, but their bagels are totally worth mentioning. They lean a little more artisanal, with lots of specialty options (like za’atar bagels!) and killer house-made cream cheeses. Definitely more of a “sit and enjoy” spot compared to a classic grab-and-go bagel shop.
