Lower East Side – Charming Lower East Side is a great place to stay in. You’ll be surrounded by diverse culture, great restaurants, trendy bars, amazing thrift shopping and lively atmosphere. You also have easy access to Williamsburg, Brooklyn by walking over the Williamsburg Bridge.
Chelsea – Chelsea has a good mix of art galleries, shopping, dining and also the iconic High Line Park. Chelsea is located a little higher in Manhattan, so if you’re interested in walking around a lot exploring Times Square and Midtown this neighborhood could fit you well.
East Village – This neighborhood has a little bit of everything: amazing restaurants, great shopping and a lively nightlife scene.
Meatpacking – Meatpacking is well known for it’s nighlife scene with all the clubs, great restaurants as well as high end shopping. This area feels very trendy and give some good people watching.
Union Square – If you’re visiting NYC for the first time I would recommend staying somewhere around Union Square. It’s located right in the middle of everything in Manhattan and walking distance to Midtown, Soho, West Village, Meatpacking and many more neighborhoods. It’s also just one stop away with the subway to Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Williamsburg – This is my recommendation for second timers to NYC. I can guess that your trip you spent most of your time in Manhattan exploring some classic tourist attraction. This time you get to explore Williamsburg, Brooklyn but also have easy access to Manhattan since it’s only one stop away with the L train. Williamsburg is well know for it’s hipster Vibe, great restaurants, amazing thrift shopping and overall good vibes.

Avoid Times Square
Avoid staying right at Times Square; it’s crowded, and prices are high. Many people make the mistake of staying at Times Square for their first time in New York. Most people find that seeing Times Square once is enough. If you want to stay near Times Square, consider staying a bit further up, closer to Central Park, for example, at Conrad or Michelangelo. If it’s your first time, try finding a hotel close to Union Square instead. Great location right in the middle of everything.
